Before AfterCody and Dana in it." width="250px" height="200px" class="imageright" border="0" /> After Pt.2 After Pt.3 Last night as Cody was about to leave he made an off-handed comment about how the couch would look better against the back wall. Not one to shy away from any opportunity to agitate my mother.. and gain more floor space, I quickly suggested that since we had nothing better to do, we should rearrange the living room. Thankfully, for my boredom's sake, Cody agreed but his condition was that he needed a strawberry milkshake before the demolition began and he ran home (right around the bend now) and set to work on two giant homemade shakes with extra strawberry goodness. Upon his return (with the hobbled Dana) I scampered into my bedroom and grabbed the camera. I figured, hey I've got a new camera so why not make a still memory of this devious project?, and quickly took a shot of our pathetic excuse for a living room. Armed with three giant shakes, a photograph for memory and our cigarettes in plain site we set to work. We moved the couch a total of 6 times, the kitchen table a total of 3 times, the inn tables 4 times, the recliner 3 times, the big shelf unit 3 times.. we had an insanely difficult time finding places for all the furniture. Apparently small places are bitches to arrange and our constant laughter definitely wasn't helping the situation. It also didn't help that Cody's pants kept falling off his ass, Dana had to keep moving from place to place (she's still hobbled from a car accident) and I kept tripping over my pants. Add that to the fact that I'm 5'1 and Cody is 6' so every time we had to pick something up he had to carry it bent down to my level. I must admit the project turned out better than I expected it to. What started as me wanting to agitate my mother turned into a much more functional living room. Now we can all sit together to watch movies and tv, the tv won't be blocked by people walking around, the air that leaks through the doors passes before the couch instead of on top of it (much warmer to lounge in the room now!) and it opened up a whole world of space we didn't realise existed before. I honestly can't wait until mom gets home today. She has no idea what we did so I'll get a good laugh from the 'wtf???' facial expression she makes as she waltzes through the door. What can be better than random fun turned into a space opening project within a super small apartment? Coffee... but not much else I tell ya!

Let us know what your mom thinks!!

Ah, I love quick re-designs like that! My family watches HGTV all the time and they have stuff like that on there- rearranging your house for no cost (or little cost)! It’s pretty cool. It’s amazing how little can make such a big difference. I hope your mom’s reaction is positive! XD

Aw, I’m only 5′2″ so I feel your pain. EVERYBODY is taller than me, it seems. All my friends are starting to tower over me. lol

Michele

I’m not sure what it looked like before but from the pics, it looks fantastic. It looks really cozy and inviting.

Joni

Nice job, Melissa!

I agree. The new arrangement makes more sense. So what did your mom say? lol :P

Sheena

Love your place, it’s so warm and welcoming.I adore the plant stand in the living room. :-)

Kenneth

Rearranging furniture always looks the room look kinda new and fresh. And gaining floor space is always good. Must’ve been exhausting to move all that

Jessica

Yeah, ice cream every now & then is very nice! =D

mika

the living room does look better!

Shari

The living room arrangement now does make sense in terms of space. I wonder how your mother reacted.

Kelsie

ooh… sounds kind of ‘Feng Shui’ heheh.

I’m horrible with that kind of stuff. And my parents would probably kill me if I made an attempt to redecorate our house. But it looks like you guys put in a lot of work!

mm…. coffee. yumm.
