09NovComments: when and how to respond to them?

I’m just curious as to when other bloggers return their comments and what they think is the best way to return them.

I always wait until I write a new post before returning comments so those I comment on have a fresh post to read when they click on my name, but how soon do you return your blogs comments, how and.. why do you do it that particular way?

I know a lot of bloggers respond as soon as they read a comment via email or even the normal return site comment. I’ve thought about doing this (the email part at least), even tried a plugin or two.. none of which worked and I’m just curious how you guys go about emailing responses.

Do you have a plugin you use for the job or do you manually copy and paste each commenters email address into the compose screen of your inbox?

If I could find a plugin that enabled me to email comment responses I’d use it all the time but all the plugins I’ve found have been for normal ‘quick’ mail or just enabling me to type a normal comment response in the admin panel of WordPress without having to leave said admin panel.

The latter of those two plugins isn’t too bad but in order for it to really do its job the commenter I’m responding to would need to be subscribed to the comments of that particular post.

Yes, yes I know there’s yet another plugin to send an email to unsubscribed people when I respond to their comment but who wants to use two separate plugins to do a single job? Not me and not most of the bloggers I know across the web.

Obviously those plugins weren’t, and aren’t, what I’m looking for.. so, do you know the plugin I’m searching for? If so please be kind and shove a link to it in my face.

Until I figure that plugin out I think I’m going to mosey over to WordPress.org and drop a suggestion into the box for the next release.

I’d really like to see an option in the comment moderation area that allows us to respond to a comment via email or normal comment. WordPress has so many other features but from the interactive standpoint, I think those two features would be highly useful.

More ways to respond and connect with our readers = more return readers + more comments + more link love + okay, you see where I’m going with this one. It would be highly beneficial, don’t you agree?

Let’s have a show of comments, hands and any other appendages that stick out of who would like to see these two features popped into WordPress’ already numerable feature list!

And for god’s sake, no penises or boobies please, I’m not into peep shows.. at least not today

22OctSidebar issues and another $2 webservice sale

If the sidebar links look a little funny don’t freak out, I’m trying to customize my linkworth plugin to match the rest of the links but so far am having zero luck.

Until the linkworth team gets back to me with a fix they’ll remain .. unlisted, i.e. they won’t have little blue bullets resting beside them.

It could be a bigger problem, and lord knows I’m grateful it isn’t but just knowing they don’t match and look out of place is going to irk me to hell and back.

On another issue-laden subject I’m dead broke and am scrambling to hell and back trying to scrape up a little cash to make sure my internet bill gets paid. I have enough for my hostings next cycle but I’m afraid the internet payment is looking bleak.

The thing that pisses me off is that I have money, I just can’t get to it. Yahoo publishers keeps having issues with my paypal account. I put my information in, it tells me it’s correct yet when they go to pay me they tell me they can’t because my information isn’t right.

They only pay once a month, and the double shitty part is that they close the payment options page during their payout cycle so I can’t even fix the so-called problem to get my payment settled. *shakes her head* I honestly have zero luck these days.

Anywho this lack of money is good for you guys as I’m redoing the $2.00 websale. I need $15.00 and I need it fairly quickly soo here’s all the things you can pick up for two bucks:

Smiley Pack - to match your site, someone elses site or whatever other color you’d like

Icon Pack - same as above

Php or php + mysql script installation - does
not
include customizations.. unless you buy the plugin pack below.

Plugin Pack - installation of any 4 plugins to any script you have, you must provide the plugins or links to the plugins.. more plugins can be installed for the same price depending on their size and work level

Promo Pack - 2 88x 31 buttons, 1 120×60 button, 1 80×15 button and 1 468×60 banner to match your site or whatever you decide to put on it, no animation though.. because I suck at animation *blush*

Website/Forum Header - Just what it says, you specify the colors, size, text, etc.

Simple accordion layout - doesnt include a topheader, for an example of a right side accordion visit my plugboard site at: http://www.simp.comotized.com, let the page load then click on the blue and purple navigation bars. Other styles such as left side navigation, top navigation, etc. is available

Paid Blog Post (written by yours truely.. or by yourself whichever you prefer) - maximum 200 words, maximum of 3 text links, you pick the topic, referral urls are accepted.

If you need examples of the items listed above or have an item in mind that isn’t listed send an e-mail to: admin@comotized.com.

If you’d like to purchase an item send payment, via paypal, to admin@comotized.com and type your item choice in the comment box.

Like I said, I’m scrounging, so pick up whatever you can as it won’t last long

16OctIf only ASO were a teddy bear…

Sorry for the short space between my moving post and the updated post but after the move there was a lot of kinks to work out.

I’m sure most of you have noticed Sarah and myself testing out a comment plugin

Most all of the kinks have been worked out but I still need to reinstall a photo gallery plugin and fiddle with a few other things. For the most part comotized is back to normal and if you go to the goodies page you’ll find new pixel adoptions in place.

The adoptions aren’t completely new, they were made for members of post munkey to adopt but with that domain being thrown into the garbage I’ve decided to give them life after death on comotized.

Along with the pixels two or three smiley packs will be making an appearance soon. Monkeys, bunnies and a set of normal golden yellow smilies will be moving in.

For all those curious, A Small Orange is my new web host and I must say I adore them thus far!

Comotized has a much quicker loading time which is seriously noticeable for dial-up users such as myself.

Their packages might seem skimpy but they’re anything but. They’re just a web host that doesn’t rely on overselling to drag in members.

I mean come on, let’s face it, the average website will never consume 300gbs of space and 1,000+gbs of bandwidth. It just won’t, and if every user on an overselling web host did manage to make use of all of their alotted space and bandwidth the web host wouldn’t be able to pay their bills, their servers would overload and crash and any site hosted by them would disappear from the web altogether.

I highly recommend aso as a web host. Their prices are fair, their space and bandwidth are more than enough for whatever type of site you need hosting for, customer service is A++ and you get unlimited email, databases, ftp accounts and more. If aso were a person I’d squeeze them tighter than a teddy bear, they rock that much!

Just make sure if you switch that you tell them little ole’ comotized.com referred ya. It isn’t completely necessary but it’d be much appreciated. In all seriousness though, I really am pleased with their service. At this point in time I give them two thumbs up!

No more waiting 20 seconds to a full minute for my sites to load. I’m mucho happy about that!

Now I’ve just gotta backup my topsite lists database and pull it over to aso. It’ll get a fresh redesign and name switch but at least the members won’t have to resubmit their sites, just a simple code switch and voila.

And for the few forum members I had who were active and helped me out so much (thanks guys, you know I love ya!) I’ll start on our new, invite only, forum very soon so keep an eye on those e-mail accounts of yours!

I’ll return comments tonight, I’m much too tired for heavy reading right now. The only reason this post was even posted right now is because my acid reflux flared up when I laid down earlier and nearly burned and choked me to death Hopefully it’ll behave this go round so I can get some sleep, I’m exhausted.. wish me luck eh?

11AugAlive Directory - Human edited, quality links

Alive Directory is a paid inclusion, quality website directory that lists quality, family-friendly, and spam-free web sites

While I don’t like having to pay for a listing I do like the fact that it’s human edited.

Human edited directories are the best directories online as they ensure the sites listed have been looked over and reviewed with a real set of eyes, rather than a bunch of code skimming the sites for certain key aspects like cuss words and photograph alt tags.

They also have a very nice design which is what pulled me into the site to begin with. It’s simple, clean, has ample room for the content, a lovely eye-catching logo and the colors play very nice together. It’s very web 2.0-ish but hey, that’s the type of design I like. You’ll have to be the judge in that area of the site.

All in all I feel this is a good directory and would be well worth the money to be included, however, I do feel that they need a free listing section. Just a simple space somewhere on the site where users can submit their links for free.

Having this type of section is always a good idea for any website directory as it gains more back links, and it’s easy to drop the benefits down a few notches so you really don’t lose much, as serious advertisers are going to buy the slots that have perks associated with them before they even think about a free listing.

Keep the paid listings and featured slots but have a smaller free section with a limit on the site description (or no description), require a link back to your directory (make free members use a button rather than a text link) and voila. Same income with more link backs. It won’t hurt ya and it’ll help your page rank in the long run. Maybe that six can go up to an eight? It never hurts to try!

Just for those who are curious here’s a list of Alive Directory’s main categories, you’ll need to visit (which I recommend, it’s super pretty!) to view all the sub-categories:

  • Arts
  • Business
  • Computer
  • Entertainment
  • Health
  • Home
  • Internet
  • Kids & Teens
  • News
  • Recreation
  • Reference & Education
  • Regional
  • Science
  • Shopping
  • Society
  • Sports

Have a little cash and want your site listed on Alive Directory? Go submit your site!
