Painting your nails can be fun sometimes and lord knows it deffinately adds some zing to any wardrobe and well.. just makes us girls feel pretty.
What I hate is when my nail polish starts chipping off in a matter of days, hell, sometimes hours.
There’s an easy way to fix this issue that takes little to no time at all and will keep your nail polish in place for weeks with no chipping what-so-ever.
The best part? It also makes your nail polish look shinier AND easier to remove when you want to change colors or go bare. When you want it off all you’ve gotta do is peel it off. Pretty neat eh?
So what’s the trick you ask?
The very simple and very common: clear nail polish.. or a clear topcoat if you don’t have the clear polish.
Personally I prefer the new kind of polish that dries in 60 seconds or less but feel free to use whatever brand you like. You can even use clear nail strenghener which will have the same effect as the clear polish or topcoat but with the added benefits of feeding your nails some good old fashioned vitamins!
The first step, of course, is to pick your color. Paint your nails like you normally would. If you use a basecoat, use it. If your color requires a second coat.. double coat it, it doesn’t matter.
Let your polish dry, I recommend painting your nails during the day then doing the clear stuff the next morning but you can do it as soon as your polish dries or before you go to sleep.. whatever.
Now, that’s normal enough right? No tricks or gimicks or other weird crap to deal with. Which is basically the entire point of this ‘trick’ It isn’t really a trick at all, but hey, it works!
For the first couple times after your fresh polish session you’ll want to wait about a day, I wait two, then paint a fresh coat of clear polish, clear topcoat or clear nail strengthener and let it dry. A single coat, no more, no less.
After about four days of this, we’re only counting the clear coat days as actual days just so ya know, you can lower the fresh clear coats to four days. The more coats you put on the more time you can wait in between. You’ll know the fun is over when the top edges of your polish starts to peel up. At that point you just need to peel the polish off of your nails and start over again.
I’ve kept this ‘trick’ up for a solid month before with no problems but I don’t recommend going to or over that length of time as your nails need air just like all of your other body parts.
It’s nice to keep the polish on but don’t over do it. If you deprive your nails of oxygen for too long they’ll get ’sick’ and they can turn yellow or even develope a fungus. I only did it for a month out of curiosity.
I recommend doing this for a week or two then starting over. It’s the safest bet and hey two weeks is still longer than a few days or hours right?
Sidenotes:
Have you ever painted your nails and accidentally bumped or smudged one? Did you know that you don’t have to remove the polish and repaint it?
All you need to do is lick the tip of your finger and gently run it over the smudged spot until it smooths back into place. If that doesn’t work, dip your finger into some nail polish remover and rub that over the smudge instead. If that fails.. you’re shit out of luck and have to repaint it as it’s dried too much to fix!
